Healthcare-associated infections\n(HAI) represent a significant public health problem\ndue to increased morbidity, mortality, length of\nhospital stay, and treatment costs. In addition,\nirrational use of antibiotics contributes to the\ndevelopment of antimicrobial resistance, which\nrepresents one of the greatest challenges of modern\nmedicine. The aim of this study was to determine the\nrisks for the development of IHI, the prevalence of\nintrahospital infections in the \"Sveti apostol Luka\"\nHospital in Doboj, as well as to analyze the most\ncommon types of infections, the causes of the use of\nantimicrobial drugs.<br> <br>\nMaterial and methods. A point prevalence study was\nconducted according to the unified protocol of the\nEuropean Centre for Disease Prevention and Control\n(ECDC PPS version 6.1). <br><br>\n Results. The study included 306 hospitalized\npatients from all 17 hospital departments. Data were\ncollected on patients\u2019 demographic characteristics,\nrisk factors, invasive procedures, types of infections, and antibiotic use. The prevalence of healthcare-\nassociated infections was 3.2%, while 57.2% of hospitalized patients were receiving antibiotics. The\nhighest prevalence of HAI was recorded in\nneurology and intensive care units. The most\ncommonly used antibiotics were third-generation\ncephalosporins, extended-spectrum penicillins, and\nfluoroquinolones. Prolonged surgical prophylaxis\nwas recorded in 90% of patients.<br><br>\n  Conclusions.
